The Hebrew alphabet is not just a set of symbols coding speech. The letters are soaked in meaning and symbolism, a holy language with which the Universe was created. Each letter a world in itself. And as if that was not enough – their shape is simply beautiful.
Do you have your favorite Hebrew letter? Mine are alef and shin. Then gimmel, mem, and lamed. When I set to create designs celebrating the Hebrew alphabet, I started, quite rightly so, from the beginning: the letter alef.
Each alef in my collection has a unique background. One is a photo of an old Torah parchment, another the Western Wall (Kotel) in Jerusalem or a medieval manuscript with Kabbalistic symbols which are supposed to be an amulet. A beautiful letter with a spiritually meaningful background – the perfect combination, isn’t it?
